CHAPTER 9 – COURTHOUSE REGULATIONS

          9-1-1          AVAILABILITY RESTRICTED.  The Union County Courthouse shall not be open to the public without the presence of courthouse security provided by the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

          9-1-2          HOURS OF OPERATION.  The Courthouse hours of operation shall be from 8:00 A.M. to noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday, except for legal holidays established by the County Board of Commissioners or as otherwise directed by the Resident Circuit Judge and/or the Sheriff.  Additionally, the Courthouse may be open for operation and use by the County Clerk and Recorder on Saturdays at pre-established times to provide access for early voting during the weeks prior to an election upon providing notice to the Sheriff.

          9-1-3          COURTROOM USAGE.  The courtrooms are for court purposes only and shall only be used for County business upon the approval of the Resident Circuit Judge.

          9-1-4          AFTER HOUR USE LIMITED.  After hour use of the Courthouse shall be limited to County business, i.e. County Board Meetings, County Informational Meetings, County Board Committee Meetings, and Grand Jury Proceedings.  This Section shall not prevent after hour use of County offices by County office holders and their staff.

          9-1-5           PENALTY.  Failure to comply with the requirements herein shall be considered a violation of the Chapter resulting in a fine of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) per occurrence.  Additionally, any violation may result in additional charges consisting of contempt proceedings, a violation of 720 ILCS 5/21-5, Criminal Trespass to State Supported Land, a Class A Misdemeanor, or potentially a violation of 720 ILCS 5/19-1, Burglary, a Class 2 Felony depending on the facts and circumstances of the violation.
